Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten

Kindergarten ArtworkIt is our belief at Edgewood Campus School that each kindergartener is a precious gift entrusted to us. We teach through example, as we model the values and ideals that guide children to learn respect for self, others, and the environment. It is a joy to watch these little ones as they grow in self-confidence and self-esteem. Learn more about our application and registration process today!

Curriculum Overview

Our kindergarten programs are an all-day experience meeting every day during the traditional school year. We cap enrollment at eighteen children for 4K and twenty-five children for 5K. Qualified educational assistants support the classroom teachers.

We focus on the individual child as we prepare the students for their elementary school journey. We approach learning with curiosity, engagement and persistence, invention and imagination, and cognitive skills. Our core curriculum includes religion, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Special subject teachers instruct the children in art, music, physical education, library, Spanish, and technology. A guidance counselor provides a program that enriches our students with important life skills.

Our mathematics program emphasizes concepts that include working with patterns, sorting, measuring, understanding math terms, counting, number recognition, counting by groups, identifying geometric shapes, time, money, making predictions, and organizing data.

Our teachers use the “kindergarten through college” approach when working through our science program. We utilize FOSS experiment kits, which provide the children with hands-on exploration to understanding their environment. The topics of study include, but are not limited to, the ocean, dinosaurs, the human body, trees, balls and ramps, fabric, and animals 2x2.

Reading and Language Arts

During reading and language arts, we focus on the letters of the alphabet, auditory discrimination, letter identification and consonant sound correspondence, and basic phonetic rules. We also introduce the children to literature by listening, understanding story details, vocabulary development, working left to right, journaling, contributing to class discussions, and speaking in front of a group. We utilize a balanced literacy model, along with the CAFE program, to implement strategies and skills.

Social Studies

With a focus on good citizenship and caring for others, our kindergarten social studies include a study of family, school, community, country, and the world. We introduce the students to maps, landforms, history, customs and traditions, and world celebrations.

We include religious experiences by incorporating daily prayer, songs, and Bible story activities. Our kindergarteners attend liturgy and prayer services together with the entire student body at St. Joseph Chapel at Edgewood College. We teach the children of Jesus' love for them as they celebrate church holy days and holidays.
