Sitting in for Freedom

Lunch counterIn honor of Black History Month, the fourth grade class presented the play, Sitting in for Freedom. They shared the story of four African American college students who walked into a whites-only lunch counter at the local Woolworth's store in Greensboro, NC, and asked for coffee. When service was refused, the college students sat patiently. Despite threats and intimidation, the students sat quietly and waited to be served. The civil rights sit-in was born.

The play was a moving experience for all of the Edgewood students, parents, and staff that attended the fine production.

We are the Champions!

Congratulations to our 8th grade girls basketball team. These girls worked super hard as a team and won the Edgewood Invitational Basketball Tournament. Way to go, team!

Amazing Opportunity

Ten 8th graders had the opportunity to tour and learn about the game design and programming industry. Filament Games focuses on building educational online games for students of all ages, including corporate training needs. The students learned about the process from conception to rolling out a product for a client. They learned about the educational backgrounds and job descriptions of the sound effect artists, 2D and 3D graphic artists, engineers, designers and programmers. Students learned about the importance of teamwork, mental flexibility and the definition of a "finished product." Sitting in the amazingly, cool, techy work environment was truly inspirational. Students were selected for participation based on their passion for computer programming and artistic passions.

Lynn Koresh, ECS Computer Teacher Named High Impact Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Lynn Koresh received the High Impact Teacher of the Year award at the 2018 TCEA (Texas Computer Education Association) conference in Austin, TX. She was among an impressive group of nominees who represented public and private school in Texas. This national award makes her a candidate for the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) High Impact Teacher of the Year, announced in June 2018 at their conference in Chicago. Congratulations, Mrs. Koresh!  We are so blessed to have you on the Edgewood Campus School teaching staff.
